Hello there! Here’s an update of work at Sacred Groves from the year 2018 & 2019.
Prototype Houses
Carbon Footprint CalculatIon
In a comparative study of our prototype scale structure built with contemporary materials to the one built with natural building technology, it shows that natural & up-cycled construction saved up-to 59.5% of Carbon emissions.
Construction of rain water harvesting tanks for the prototype houses was finished before the 2019 monsoons . With 7 collection tanks adding to 240,000 liters of catchment capacity & 3 supplementing filtration tanks – the houses are one step closer to being self sufficient!
External Project – Farm House of Mr. Maran
This is the first exterior project executed by Sacred Groves! It is a farm house project of 84 Sq.m. area housing two bedrooms, two bathrooms, pantry & living area with two balconies. It is built using mud, lime, timber and other natural materials with traditional construction techniques. The project began in January 2018 & came to a finish in early 2019.
Dry Compost Toilet & Shower area at Sacred Groves
In function since December 2018 – the dry compost toilet & shower area is built with localized grey-water treatment pits & barrel system of composting – it uses minimal water to function.
Build – Free Projects
Earth-Bag Dome
The Earth-Bag Dome at Sacred groves is built using waste cement bags filled with soil. It was finished in August 2019. Currently it accommodates 4 people.
Build-Free House
The first build-free project is near completion. Stay in touch for further updates!
Our internship & volunteer program continue, although it has come to a brief halt given the situation with COVID-19. We hope to start strong when the testing time has passed!
